Amadeus Partnership for Lufthansa

Amadeus was looking for a partner to take over the product development and maintenance of Lufthansa's online reservation system to book flights and related services, such as seats, luggage, insurance, and car rental. Cyclad flew in the required specialists and later ran the entire project independently from Poland — a partnership that lasted more than 9 years.

Challenge

Amadeus needed a reliable long-term partner to develop and maintain Lufthansa's online reservation system — a mission-critical platform that enables customers to book flights and a wide range of related services including seat selection, luggage options, travel insurance, and car rental. The challenge extended beyond simple maintenance: the system needed a highly configurable CMS to support Lufthansa's evolving content needs, had to serve both direct end-to-end customers and travel agencies with different workflows, and required support for multiple payment methods across diverse markets.

  • Developing and maintaining an existing online reservation system at enterprise scale
  • Creating a highly configurable CMS for Lufthansa to manage dynamic content
  • Making the product available for both end-to-end customers and travel agencies
  • Supporting multiple payment methods across different markets and customer segments

Solution

Cyclad began by flying in the required specialists to integrate with Amadeus's existing teams and understand the complexities of Lufthansa's reservation platform. Over time, Cyclad took increasing ownership of the project until it was running the entire development and maintenance operation independently from Poland, with full responsibility for Lufthansa's end-to-end system. The team leveraged a broad technology stack — Java J2EE and Spring MVC for robust backend services, Angular JS and Angular 4 for evolving frontend interfaces, jQuery and JavaScript for legacy compatibility, and React for modern component development — to deliver a seamless booking experience.

The highly configurable CMS built for Lufthansa empowered the airline to manage dynamic content without constant developer intervention, while the multi-channel architecture ensured both direct customers and travel agencies could book efficiently. Multiple payment integrations were implemented and maintained to support the global nature of Lufthansa's operations.

Results

Cyclad took over full responsibility for Lufthansa's end-to-end online reservation system. The partnership between Amadeus and Cyclad lasted more than 9 years. Over the course of this project, we delivered 40+ trained and knowledgeable developers, including full-stack, Java, JavaScript, and Angular developers, and several QAs, who performed according to the predefined KPIs. The team successfully maintained and evolved a platform that handled millions of bookings while supporting seats, luggage, insurance, and car rental services.

Laurent Chauvin
Senior VP, Amadeus

What started out with a small team of extra developers on the ground in Nice, ended up being a fully functional outsourced division for Amadeus here in Poland. We're proud that we're able to take over full responsibility for an existing project of this scope. We're confident that we can reproduce this model for future clients with ease now.
